Tafea and Bush Pigs Dominate in Thrilling Double Header

Round 4 of the Port Vila T20 Championship witnessed two gripping encounters as Tafea Cricket Club and North Efate Bush Pigs emerged victorious against their opponents, Splashe Mele Bulls and Tusker Panthers, respectively.

In the first match of the day, Tafea Cricket Club faced Splashe Mele Bulls in a thrilling contest. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Bulls faced early setbacks as they struggled to find momentum against Sandalwood's disciplined bowling attack. Despite a valiant effort from Patrick Matautaava, who showcased his prowess with a magnificent 68 off 40 balls, including five fours and five sixes, the Bulls were restricted to a total of 87/9 in their allotted 16 overs. Tafea's Wamejo Wotu proved to be the tormentor-in-chief, wreaking havoc with a spectacular spell of 5 wickets for just 11 runs. Supported by Williamsing Nalisa's two crucial wickets, Sandalwood's bowlers effectively dismantled the Bulls' batting lineup.

Chasing a target of 88 runs for victory, Tafea Cricket Club's innings got off to a steady start, with opener Darren Wotu and Wamejo Wotu laying a solid foundation. Despite losing a few wickets along the way, Tafea maintained their composure, with Darren and Wamejo playing crucial knocks of 18 and 20 runs respectively. Despite a late flourish from Rashid Bangalulu, who scalped three wickets for 28 runs, Tafea reached the target in 13 overs with five wickets in hand, sealing a convincing victory.

In the second match, North Efate Bush Pigs clashed with Tusker Panthers in another exciting encounter. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the Bush Pigs' bowlers made early inroads into the Panthers' batting lineup, with Tim Cutler leading the charge with an impressive spell of 4 wickets for just 10 runs. Despite a valiant effort from Suria Rajen, who top-scored with 35 runs, Tusker Panthers struggled to build partnerships, ultimately posting a modest total of 80/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Ronald Tari and Nick Venables provided crucial support to Cutler, chipping in with one and two wickets each.

Chasing a target of 81 runs for victory, the North Efate Bush Pigs got off to a cautious start, losing a few early wickets. However, captain Tari anchored the innings with a brilliant unbeaten knock of 45 runs, steering his team towards victory. Despite Suria Rajen and Langdale Tamalua's efforts with the ball, the Bush Pigs reached the target in 15 overs with five wickets in hand, securing a comprehensive win.

The final match between the Mighty Saints and Paama Sharks was postponed to a later date.
