Men’s 40 Over Domestic Shield Continues

Domestic Shield Club Standings

The first four rounds of the men’s 40 Over Domestic Shield have hit off this year’s Vanuatu club cricket season in Port Vila with the final round robin matches approaching this weekend.

The Domestic Shield, consisting of six Men’s Teams, namely: Paama Sharks, Tusker Panthers, Mighty Saints, Splashe Mele Bulls, North Efate Bush Pigs and Tafea CC, will conclude on the 4th of March 2023 with a Grand Final between the top two finishing sides.

With the inconsistent weather patterns lingering over Port Vila, two of the first four matches were abandoned, meaning the remaining games are crucial for teams looking to make it to the Grand Final and claim the 100,000 Vatu cash prize.

So far, the North Efate Bush Pigs lead with 8 points, followed closely by Tafea Sandalwood, Splashe Mele Bulls, Paama Sharks, Tusker Panthers all of whom are on 5 points and current Shield holders Mighty Saints rounding out the table with 2 points.

North Efate will take on Tafea Cricket Club this weekend at the Vanuatu Cricket Ground alongside the Splashe Mele Bulls versus Mighty Saints game on VCG #1 whilst Paama Sharks take on the Tusker Panthers at Independence Park.

A win for the Bushpigs or Tafea automatically sends them through to next week’s final and places other rival teams’ hopes to reaching the final in a net run rate eliminator, with Splashe Mele Bulls’ hopes of reaching the grand final hinging on a large victory over the Mighty Saints side who have endured a difficult start to their 2023 campaign and would without a doubt love to get one over on the Bulls, and the winner of the Paama Sharks and Tusker Panthers game both also requiring large victories to turn over their net run rate deficits.

An eventful weekend of cricket lies in wait with Saturday’s matches determining who will make the Grand Final on the 4th of March 2023 and take the Domestic Shield.
