Roundup: Chiefs crushed by Mangau mania as Tafea go two for two in Port Vila T20 Cup

Matchday Report (Saturday 10 May 2025)

Men's

The latest round of the Haos Blo Wok Port Vila Men’s T20 Championship 2025 featured a mix of weather interruptions, forfeits, and competitive cricket as teams continue to battle for supremacy in Vanuatu’s premier men’s T20 competition.

Match 1: Tafea Cricket Club vs. Independence Park Chiefs

Result: Tafea CC won by 91 runs

At historic Independence Park, in the only completed match of the day, Tafea delivered a commanding performance, posting 201/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Their bowlers then restricted The Indy Park Chiefs (the club formerly known as Paama Sharks) to 110/7, securing a comprehensive 91-run victory.

Godfrey Mangau led the Tafea charge with a blistering 135 not out from 71 deliveries featuring 10 fours and 9 sixes as he carried his bat. Steward Sandy picked up two wickets.

Chasing the huge total, the only real resistance was from Jason (32 from 24) and Steward Sandy (23 from 21) as the Chiefs' chase was never really able to get going after key wickets of Jamal Vira and club coach Womajo Wotu fell cheaply and only managed to post 110 for 7 from their 20 overs. Promising tall left arm fast bowler Neto Wotu took 3 for 7 from his four overs.

In the other two matches, both at the Vanuatu Cricket grounds, there was no play, which was not to everyone's approval. Tusker Panthers & North Efate BushPigs shared the spoils due to a wet field that caused play to be abandoned. On VCG #1, Mighty Saints forfeited, giving full points to Splashe Mele Bulls to get their season off and running.

This Saturday 16 May at 1pm sees:

  • North Efate take on Indy Park Chiefs at Independence Park

  • Splashe Mele Bulls against Tusker Panthers at VCG #1 and

  • Tafea CC vs Mighty Saints next door on field number two.
