Solman Selected for 2022 Fairbreak Invitational

Having first been selected as a "FairBreaker" in 2016, Selina Solman, the Captain of the Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu National Women's Cricket Team has once again been signed to play in the Fairbreak Invitational with the 2022 event being held in Dubai during May.

Founded in 2013 under the name Women’s International Cricket League, FairBreak originally was created to be a standalone tournament for women to advance their opportunities and remuneration in cricket.

The movement has since morphed to tackle systemic barriers to gender equality on a truly global scale.

In line with the Vanuatu Cricket Association's own Social Impact and Inclusion Program – of which Solman is an Ambassador – Fairbreak aims “to create opportunities that progress genderequality on a truly global scale, using cricket as our primary vehicle".

The 2022 tournament will have some of the biggest names in global cricket come together for a two-week event featuring stars from over 30 countries. Players will gather together for a world-class, first of its kind tournament whilst also undertaking a wide range of community outreach events.

Having first been selected in 2016, Solman has gained a substantial reputation within the FairBreak global community including earning player of the match honours in the first Paul Getty XI fixture in Wormsley, UK.

"I am always honoured to play for FairBreak and represent Vanuatu, but this one is very special because after so many months of training and no international competitions due to COVID. I feel like this is a great opportunity for me to show the cricket family here in Vanuatu, and the broader community, that if you keep working hard on what you love, you will achieve so much more than anyone could expect," Solman said.

"It is truly a dream come true for me every time I participate in FairBreak events because I get to play with people that I never thought I would ever play with. For me, it's absolutely everything."

The importance of the event, especially for the sport in Vanuatu, is not lost on the attacking right-handed all-rounder.

"As someone who loves cricket here in Vanuatu, this is the chance that I get to show the world that we have an amazing women's cricket team. I not only represent cricket but I also fly the flag for Vanuatu – for all sports here – and especially other girls and women who haven't had the opportunities like I have had....yet!" Solman concluded.

The tournament will run from May 1 – 15 2022 in Dubai in conjunction with Cricket Hong Kong. The six teams at the event will be made up of players from around the world and will be the world’s first privately funded tournament of this scale in women’s cricket history with the healthcare group Gencor as the lead sponsor.
