Vanuatu Cricket Association Elevates Simpson Obed to Education Officer Role

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening grassroots cricket development, the Vanuatu Cricket Association (VCA) has named Simpson Obed, a distinguished figure within Vanuatu Cricket, as their Education Officer.

Obed, who is celebrated for his success as a senior men’s player within the Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Men’s team, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Having demonstrated his commitment to cricket through various ICC and VCA programs, including the recent attainment of the ICC Level One Coaching Certificate, Obed emerges as a natural choice for the role.

Obed’s responsibilities will play a pivotal role in aiding coaches, scorers, umpires, and development officers. His initiatives will include the implementation of a diverse range of programs and courses, including:

  • ICC Foundation Certificate for introductory cricket coaching

  • Criiio Certificate focusing on soft ball games.

  • VCA LV1 & 2 Scoring Certificate

  • VCA LV1 Umpiring Certificate

  • Social Impact and Inclusion GBV Training

  • Onboarding for Child Protection Policies

Expressing his thoughts about the new role, Simpson Obed stated:

“I feel incredibly privileged to take on this new position within the organisation and am grateful to the VCA for providing me the opportunity to share a variety of my cricketing experiences and skills to aid in the development of cricket in Vanuatu.” remarked Obed.

Jamal Vira, the Operations Manager at VCA, expressed:

" I think this position will allow the VCA to access coaching and support staff at the grassroots level. Having people in the communities playing and teaching cricket and our programs will allow the VCA to grow the game more provincially and in Urban areas like Port Vila. " Commented Vira.

Next week, Obed will lead a 2-day ICC Foundation Coaching Course in Lakatoro, Malekula from November 27th to 28th. Afterward, he'll conduct a 3-day workshop in Santo from the 29th of November to the 1st of December covering the same course along with a VCA scoring workshop. These sessions are free and open to everyone interested.

Obed's appointment signals a proactive step by the Vanuatu Cricket Association to fortify cricket development from the ground up, with a capable leader at the helm.
