Port Vila, 13 September 2025 — Vanuatu’s women’s cricket team are through to the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier after a 22-run win over Japan in their semi-final on Saturday. The result keeps the side unbeaten in the tournament.

Batting first, Vanuatu made 156/1 from their 20 overs. Captain Rachel Andrew led from the front with an unbeaten 72 off 59 balls, which included six fours and a six. She put on a 92-run opening stand with Valenta Langiatu, who struck 52 from 41 deliveries. Selina Solman finished strong, remaining not out on 26 from 20 balls.

Japan’s chase started well but needed more than seven runs per over and ultimately fell short, finishing at 134/6 in their 20 overs. Rayline Ova continues her impressive form with the ball, taking 3/18. Support came from Vicky Mansale (1/22), Nasimana Navaika (1/26), and Vanessa Vira (1/25, including a wicket-maiden), while skipper Andrew bowled 4 overs conceding 38 runs.
After being named Player of the Match, Andrew said composure was key. “Japan started well in the first six, but we’ve got a solid batting line-up and everyone did their job, kept momentum going and finished strong,” she said.

Looking ahead to the final against Papua New Guinea on Monday, Andrew added: “We can’t control what they do, but we can control our team. We’ll go in, stick to our plan, and execute it well.”
This victory not only secures Vanuatu a place in the final but also qualifies them for the new ICC Women’s Challenge League beginning in 2026.
