The Vanuatu Cricket Association is delighted to announce the selection of the Holiday Inn Resort National Team players and brothers, Darren and Womajo Wotu. Both brothers have been chosen to participate in a player placement program with the Craigieburn Cricket Club in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association. For the upcoming 2023/2024 Australian cricket season, the brothers will be based in Melbourne, Australia.
Both Darren and Womajo have already begun their Australian Summer on a high note by earning positions in the 1st XI. In addition to their playing and training responsibilities, they will also be engaging in coaching and seeking to acquire new skills in turf pitch preparation. This exciting opportunity not only showcases their cricketing talent but also emphasizes their commitment to personal and professional development. We look forward to witnessing their growth and success in this new chapter of their careers.
High-Performance Manager and National Head Coach, Chris Laffan, commented:
“This is a great opportunity for both Darren and Womajo to further develop their cricketing abilities in a competitive environment, during our off-season - in preparation for our fixtured Challenge League games in Malaysia. Both players will remain fully engaged in our High-Performance program from abroad whilst also using the time away to grow existing and new skills in coaching, player development, and curating work, which will lead to future use of these skills here at the Vanuatu Cricket Grounds in Port Vila.”
The Vanuatu Cricket Association extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Craigieburn Cricket Club and the Victorian Turf Cricket Association for providing this invaluable opportunity. We encourage cricket enthusiasts and supporters alike to follow their journey closely via our social media pages, as their achievements will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of cricketing talents in Vanuatu.
